Every tonne shipped with NEWTOWT is tracked, calculated and audited by an accredited third party. Your CO₂ savings are real — and proven.
Download my certificateAnemos is an independent certification that attaches a verified CO₂ score to each maritime voyage. Created specifically for sailing cargo operators, it gives shippers a reliable, third-party-verified measure of the climate impact of their goods.
Actual fuel consumption is monitored continuously on board, voyage by voyage, using instruments certified under EU MRV regulation.
An accredited independent auditor reviews the data annually and certifies the emission factor used in all calculations.
Each shipment receives a named Anemos certificate — a traceable, downloadable PDF ready for your CSR reporting.
Transparent methodology, aligned with EU MRV (Regulation EU 2015/757) and compatible with GHG Protocol Scope 3, category 4 (Upstream Transportation & Distribution).
Scope: tank-to-wake (on-board fuel combustion, the EU MRV perimeter), gas CO₂ only — excluding CH₄ and N₂O, so the figure is not CO₂e. Inland pre- and post-carriage are not included.
| Transport mode | g CO₂ / t·km | Source |
|---|---|---|
| NEWTOWT sailing cargo | 1.5 | On-board measurements + accredited third-party audit |
| Conventional container ship | 13.7 | IFP Energies nouvelles / IMO Fourth GHG Study |
CO₂ avoided (kg) = (13.7 − 1.5) × tonnage (t) × distance (km) ÷ 1 000
distance (km) = distance (NM) × 1.852
12 pallets of wine (1.2 t) on the Le Havre → New York route (3 200 NM ≈ 5 926 km):
(13,7 − 1,5) × 1,2 × 5 926 ÷ 1 000 = 86,7 kg CO₂ avoided vs container shipBuilt in 2024 and based in Le Havre, Anemos is NEWTOWT's purpose-built wind-powered cargo vessel. With 3 000 m² of sail area and a capacity of around 1 000 pallets, she demonstrates that sailing cargo is both commercially viable at scale and radically lower-carbon than conventional shipping.
Our actual emissions are independently audited every year. The verified report is published here as soon as it is issued.
Regulation (EU) 2015/757 on the monitoring, reporting and verification of CO₂ emissions from maritime transport. NEWTOWT reports annually to EMSA's THETIS-MRV system.
Category 4 — Upstream Transportation & Distribution. Certificate values are compatible with corporate carbon footprint declarations under the GHG Protocol standard.
Each booking generates a personalised certificate showing the exact CO₂ avoided for your shipment — ready to include in your CSR report or share with your clients.
