Evidence

Proof, not just a promise.

Need to back up your Scope 3? Here's where every figure comes from, how it's verified, and how to look it up.

1 · The figure

Where the figure comes from

Formula

CO₂ avoided (kg) = (13.7 − 1.5) × tonnage (t) × distance (km) ÷ 1 000

distance (km) = distance (NM) × 1.852

Compatibility : figures usable in a GHG Protocol Scope 3 cat. 4 declaration (upstream transport) and a Bilan Carbone®, bearing in mind the figure is CO₂ (TtW).

2 · Verification

Who verified it

Our vessels' emissions are monitored, reported and verified by an accredited body under EU MRV (Regulation EU 2015/757). They are publicly available in EMSA's THETIS-MRV registry.

Important distinction : third-party verification covers our vessels' emissions. The avoided-emissions calculation (the difference with a conventional reference cargo) is our method, published and reproducible above.

3 · Data

Measured or estimated?

When real data is available, the certificate uses declared on-board fuel (signed noon reports) and the actual distance sailed; otherwise the certified factor and an orthodromic distance (× 1.15). The method used is printed on every certificate. An annual measured-vs-estimated reconciliation is published.

4 · Registry

Can I look it up?

Every certificate carries a serial number and a QR code. Scan it, or enter the reference on our public verification page: tonnage, distance, avoided CO₂, method, date and factor version — no personal data.

5 · FAQ

Buyer & ESG FAQ

Well-to-wake or tank-to-wake perimeter?

Tank-to-wake (on-board combustion), the EU MRV perimeter. Inland pre/post-carriage is not included.

CO₂ or CO₂e?

CO₂ only (excl. CH₄/N₂O). Mind this if your reporting is in CO₂e.

Insetting or offset?

Neither: it is a reduction at source (less fuel burned), not a credit nor an offset.

Double-counting risk?

The certificate covers the maritime segment of your shipment; declare it on that segment, in Scope 3 cat. 4.

Compatible with Bilan Carbone® / ADEME?

Yes for the upstream-transport category, mind the TtW / CO₂ scope.
